Taking the Plunge into Boudoir
If someone were to come up to you and ask if you have ever considered a boudoir shoot, what would go through your mind? Some may see it as something taboo. Others may not think it possible for them because of something they see in themselves. However, there are those out there who would jump at the opportunity because they know the absolute truth: Boudoir is for EVERYONE!
I don’t say that lightly. One of the biggest myths is that boudoir is only for women who are skinny, have a great butt or have big boobs. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Take a step back and look at where boudoir came from. In the 1920’s, women found a new confidence in themselves. They felt free and wanted to show the world that a woman could do anything. Much of this had to do with women entering the workforce because of World War I. During piece time, they were not willing to give up those new found freedoms. This was the era of the “flapper girl” and from then on, it started a trend. Flappers threw away the traditional corsets in favor of bras and lingerie. They wore short dresses or skirts and even went for shorter hair styles and high heeled shoes. These were women willing to show their confidence to the world.

Through the 50’s and 60’s you had people like Marylin Monroe and Betty Page who dared to be confident in themselves. If you truly look at pictures of them, they were not the skinny runway models we tend to see today. No, in fact, they were your average, everyday woman. But what made them so sexy was their attitude. They had the confidence in themselves to not care what others thought and did these shoots for themselves.
So what has changed since the women in the mind century? One major thing: Society. In today’s world, people (in the media in particular) are quick to point out if people don’t conform to what they have deemed as beautiful. Most of the time, in their eyes, beauty is a 90-pound woman who barely eats and looks miserable. This is TERRIBLE as that is not what beauty is about let alone boudoir. Boudoir is about celebrating YOU and who YOU are. If I can be brutally honest, we all have flaws. But, it is the confidence in ourselves to accept who we are and how we were made that truly sets our attitude.

Take a look in the mirror when you go to bed or when you wake up and honestly look at yourself. Find something in you that you are proud of. Maybe it is your eyes that have so much definition. Maybe it is your chest and how a certain bra or piece of lingerie fits. It could even be a scar that reminds you of a battle you have fought and conquered or a child that you bore. Everything detail of your physical self helps define you and, by accepting that, you will see a boost in confidence. And those little boost will turn into bigger boosts until, one day, you feel a great love for yourself that you haven’t felt in a long time.
